Growing slug free Hostas!

Here are some tips on using Slugrings to keep your hostas looking perfect all summer:

Ensure all stems are within the ring in spring, if your plant has grown you can combine two rings together to make a super sized ring.

Check that no plants are overhanging the ring as slugs and snails can and will abseil in!! Make sure that nothing outside the ring is creating a bridge such as nearby leaves, woodchip or soil.

Cut away the hostas leaves as they flop down to the ground, or create a support within the ring to hold leaves high. I have done this before with a small slugring, a cut down plastic soup pot made into a collar, or bent wire.

Check your plants after heavy rain as it will cause leaves to droop and hang over the edges. Tuck them in until the sun comes out and they perk up again!

Try surrounding your hostas with lower level plants such as heuchera and brunnera which will not overwhelm it when fully grown and provide pathways to slugs.

Enjoy their beautiful leaves and flowers all summer long!
